Overview:

Scientists do not yet fully understand human memory; therefore, many theories abound about how and why it works the way it does. We do know that when it comes to reading comprehension, students need strategies for both storing information for memory and then retrieving it. These strategies can be made most effective when matched with preferred learning styles. Many free assessments are available online to help students identify learning styles: auditory, visual, and kinesthetic. Encourage students to take a learning style assessment on their own, or make it an assignment. Then have them select the strategies that will best improve their reading comprehension.
