Strategy #5: Connecting online resources to the textbook

Many newer texts have accompanying online resources - at no additional (or at nominal) cost - which give readers further review options. These online resources can help students further their understanding and retention of key ideas in a textbook chapter.

Online resources can serve several functions.

  • They motivate readers with visual appeal and interactive functions.
  • They offer opportunities for concept reviews and further explanations.
  • They provide self-tests and practice quizzes with feedback.
  • They provide research links for further study.

If your textbooks include online resources, it is important to show students how they work early in the semester so that they can make full use of them.
