Module Goals:

Reading a text rhetorically helps us understand how the writer created the argument. This can be important for determining if the case was made fairly or whether the arguments are sound. There are many ways to read a text rhetorically. In this module, however, we will focus on some basic rhetorical concepts. While you can certainly use these reading strategies for textbooks, analyzing a text rhetorically is best done with more persuasive or argumentative readings.

Our learning goals for this module are:

  • Faculty will gain an awareness of basic rhetorical concepts that aid with reading comprehension.
  • Faculty will learn application strategies for teaching these concepts to students.
