Here's How – Student Retention
On the following pages we outline more strategies that may help:
Strategy 1 - Communicate
- Research suggests a critical issue in retention relates to a student's sense of belonging (Braxton, et. al., 1997). Online students need to feel integrated into the program and the institution.
- Letting your students know you are supporting their progress is a powerful thing. Reach out if you think someone is having difficulty or if they have been uncommunicative.
- For high and middle school teachers, be in touch with parents. Parental involvement is one of the biggest predictors of student success.
Strategy 2 - Support Services
- Be familiar with the support services of your institution and have this information readily available to students.
