Here's How – Getting Started
III. Strategies for hybrid instructors (cont'd)
In designing hybrid courses, special attention needs to be focused on how online and face-to-face time will be spent. Consider the following:
- Hold an initial face-to-face kick-off meeting. This first meeting might include an orientation to the format of the course, a review of technology requirements and provide an opportunity for the students to meet peers and the instructor.
- Be sure face-to-face class meetings are integrated, connected and hold value to the educational experience of the online coursework.
- Time spent pre-planning is time well spent. Students may feel frustrated if it appears face-to-face sessions are simply thrown in, with little thought given to the role the sessions play in the overall course.
Issues related to how time and content are delivered in both online and face-to-face classes are addressed on the following page. We hear an experienced professor talk from the field.
